The Secret Behind Choosing the Perfect Bra for your Boudoir Photo Shoot
Your boudoir photo shoot wouldn’t be complete without this.
The right wardrobe is completely essential for any boudoir shoot. The truth is, however, that most women know very little (if not NOTHING) about lingerie. Most of us don’t even wear the proper bra size on a day-to-day basis.
Here at JRP Boudoir, we believe that a burgeoning boudoir wardrobe starts with education. In this post, we will help you understand what types of bras flatter which body types, and which brassiere pieces typically looks best in front of the camera. Without further ado, 6 bra possibilities for your upcoming boudoir photo shoot:
1. Push-Up Bras
Push-up bras will increase the size of the breasts and give the appearance of more cleavage. If you have your heart set on a push-up bra, be sure to test it lying down before bringing it in for your shoot. If you get an awkward gap between the bra and the breasts, consider a different fit that better enhances your assets from every angle. Typically, smaller-chested women are better off focusing on support rather than added padding. The padding can throw off the proportion of a woman. If a woman is larger-chested, we don’t recommend push-up bras, because it causes the busts to appear too large and can lead to overspill near the armpit.
2. Demi-cup or Balconettes
Demi, meaning half, refers to this bra style which covers only the bottom portion of the breast, which in turn leaves more cleavage on display without sacrificing support. Compared to push-up bras, you get amazing support and lift while working with what a woman has naturally. That makes her breasts and proportions much more natural looking.
One thing to be careful with this bra style is a little bit of exposure. Since the cup of the bra is not a full coverage cup (only covers part of the breast). Be sure to try the “lay-down” test with this bra type, too! (During your shoot, we will coach you through multiple different poses).
Note: Proper bra size is of the utmost importance with this style. Make sure the breasts fit properly into the cups and are flattered.
3. Underwire Bra
Great for women of any breast size, it is a supportive bra with a wire sewn into the bottom portion of the cups for added support. Underwires are especially important for women who need a little lift – maybe after having some children or weight loss. Underwires can be found in push-up or demi-cup bras, or they can be found in simple non-padded or lined cups. The bottom line is, if you’re going to wear a bra, and you feel you need extra support, always check for that underwire.
4. Strapless Bra
A bra without straps is typically not the best idea for boudoir photography, but it does work sometimes—usually on smaller-chested women. They serve more of a functional role that isn’t necessary when you won’t be wearing day-to-day clothing during your boudoir shoot anyway. If you don’t feel sexy in a strapless bra, skip it!
5. T-shirt Bras
Characterized by their comfort and smooth-to-the-touch feel, these bras ordinarily have minimal embellishment which allows for a smooth appearance under T-shirts or clinging clothing. Even though they technically aren’t the sexiest, you can make take it up a notch by adding lace undies, a pretty lace robe or an off-the-shoulder t-shirt.
6. No Bra at all!
Want to leave all the attention on your leather jacket, cheeky bottoms & heels? If you’re comfortable and that’s something you would like to wear during your shoot, then we’re here for it!
